Traditional floating tool pack
REDUCED STRESS ON TOOLING AND MATERIAL IMPROVES
CAN APPEARANCE AND DIE LIFE
The Pride Floating Tool Pack provides the advantage of lowering the stress caused by using the die rings and the can to move the punch to center. The punch on a bodymaker may be thought of as a punch on
a spring. The path of the bodymaker ram always varies because it must be fastened to the bodymaker drive system far from the punch. Fixed tool packs use the die ring to force the punch back to center. This causes substantial stress on both the dies and the can body that is in between the punch and die. This stress is most visible on steel cans where the tin “re-melts” leaving white streaks on the OD of the can.
PRIDE FLOATING TOOL PACKS ARE DIFFERENT THAN
COMPETITIVE FLOATING TOOL PACKS
The Pride precision suspension system is confined so it never pushes the die past center and returns the die to center within .001" before the next advance of the ram. O-ring or quad-ring systems are not precision manufactured and can not return the die to center with this precision. The use of other die flotation systems can randomly result in the same limitations of the fixed tool pack with poor can quality and increased die ring wear.

vibration dampening floating tool pack
IMPROVE CAN WALL QUALITY BY REDUCING VIBRATION
Pride’s newest Floating Tool Pack dampens vibration that can cause ribbing marks on the wall of the can. Anything made of steel, like die rings or coil springs, must return the vibration of the ram back through the can, sometimes leaving marks on the thin wall of the can. The urethane springs in Pride’s newest Tool Pack will absorb and dampen the vibration of the ram as the punch passes through the Tool Pack, improving can wall quality.
NEW WEAR PLATES EXTEND THE LIFE OF
THE TOOL PACK MODULE
The module that holds the dies rests on the rails of the bodymaker cradle. Pride’s new Tool Pack protects the module with replaceable wear plates, maintaining centering thereby reducing maintenance cost.
NEW PIN DESIGN IMPROVES PIN LIFE AND HELPS DIE ROTATE
Increased die contact area allows for the use of very hard pins without the worry of notching the OD of the die ring. The large bearing surface allows the die to turn easily.
