Ultra Precision
Air Bearing
Accuracy
15 millionths (.38µm) TIR and a
micro finish
For many years Pride Air Bearing grinders
have been the best chance to hold the
tightest tolerances and high quality finishes
for peak tooling performance. Air Bearing
Work Head and Wheel Head Spindles, solidly
mounted together on a floating granite
surface plate, will always provide the
truest roundness and finest surface finish
possible. No mechanical bearing can ever achieve
the tolerances or surface finish that
is possible with a Pride Air Bearing Grinder (locates die within 1 micron).
Pride Air Bearing Grinders will grind
any ceramic, carbide or other steel with
internal or external diameters, tapers,
and radii, round and concentric within
.000015" (.38µm) TIR while
holding a surface finish of a or better
without any polishing.
Air Bearing Wheel Head and Air Bearing
Work Head for Extra Accuracy
- Linear Slides for X, Y and Z axis
are fitted with absolute scales providing
closed loop feedback resulting in a .000004"
(.1µm) diameter accuracy.
- Granite Surface Plate Mounting
- Solid rigidity produces accuracy and
prevents chatter that degrades the surface
finish. The Model 30 achieves unbeatable
rigidity by mounting the rotary and both
spindles on a single 4 inch (100mm) thick
granite surface plate.
- Air Suspended Mount
- The Granite Surface Plate that holds
the rotary and the two air spindles is
suspended on air to isolate the work from
high and low frequency vibrations of any
origin.
- Digital Linear Actuator utilizes
Planetary Roller Screw for the spindle
in-feed.
- Direct Drive Rotary

Frameless Torque Motor controls the rotary directly with no gears, couplings, chains or joints. The motor is the rotary. The rotary is smooth and accurate to .00008" (2µm) roundness.
